Some great news from Chez's Facebook page ...

For those late night owls, here's CHEZ 106's official announcement of Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest (July 6-18, 2010):

The Moody Blues, Dream Theater, The B-52s, Joan Jett, The Flaming Lips, Metric, RUSH, John Hiatt, Arcade Fire, AlexisonFire, Santana, Iron Maiden, Steve Winwood, Matthew Good Band, Marianas Trench, Crowded House, Great Big Sea, Kevin Costner & Modern West, Keith Urban, Jimmy Cliff, Weezer, Roger Hodgson (of Supertramp), and more!

The emphasized artists are some I hope to see. You can view a more complete linear list from Ottawa Kiosk by clicking here.

The day-by-day artist lists can be checked out from the official site here.

Some other personal faves coincidentally all playing on July 8th: Renaissance [7:45 pm] (if Annie Haslam is performing with them, this is a must-hear as she is an amazing vocalist with the range of a piano) and Steve Hackett [9:45 pm] (amazing guitarist/composer from early Genesis and just recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with band-mates Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford; he'll blow you away) are scheduled to play the same night as the legendary The Moody Blues [8:00 pm]. It's really too bad that there will be time-overlaps for these great acts.

By the age of 65 you will have watched about 2 million television commercials. What is your favorite TV commercial?

@Mr. E

It is too bad that The Moody Blues and Renaissance are playing at the same time - I'll be at The Moody Blues.

It's also too bad that Steve Winwood and Santana (who are touring together this summer) are playing on different stages at different times on the same day - you can't get a good spot for both of them.

John Hiatt and Levon Helm - same stage, same night - that's good.

Southside Johnny - same night as U2 in Montreal - not good.

I’m soooooo stoked at the thought of seeing bands like Rush, Santana, B-52s, Moody Blues, Roger Hodgson, etc…...for FREE! Yes Peeps I said…err…typed “for FREE!”. For those of you who are unaware, last year I discovered a quiet little secret about Bluesfest, with the exception of the merchants (Joes Fish ‘n Chips, Tony’s Suvlaki, or Sammy’s Schwarma), EVERYONE who works @ Bluesfest from security to cleaning, to the Beer Tent to Talent Hospitality to the Wireless Cafe to every job under the direct authority of the Cisco Systems Ottawa Bluesfest organizing committe are ALL VOLUNTEERS!!! When you volunteer you get 1 food voucher for every 4hrs of work and a day pass for that day. When you sign up to do a minimum of six 4hr shifts you get an unlimited pass to see any show on any day. I highly recommend the Beer Tent as you are covered in case of rain and most Beer Tents are either beside or near a stage or stages, so you can hear the music while you work. I know PharmerPhil is interested in this and I will let you all know when I get the e-mail, which should come in a couple of weeks, calling for returning volunteers to re-sign up for this year. They get first crack at the jobs and then they open ‘em up to the general public

A couple of more artists who'll be at Bluesfest but aren't on the official schedule yet:

Bill Wharton (The Sauce Boss) - if you've never seen this guy, you should. He makes gumbo while performing (and the gumbo is good) - July 17 and 18. The dates are on his web page.

Rosanne Cash - my boss said she'd be there so I tweeted her and she replied that she'd be there but didn't tell me the date. I hope it's not July 16.
